Music Inspired by coral reefs and their survival

A coral reef is an underwater structure made from calcium carbonate secreted by corals. It is a type of biotic reef formed by colonies of stony corals, which generally live in marine waters that contain few nutrients.

Coral reefs form one of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth. Although they occupy less than 0.1% of the total surface of the oceans, they are the habitat of 25% of all marine species, including fish, molluscs, worms, crustaceans, echinoderms, sponges, tunicates and others. Coral reefs are commonly found in shallow tropical waters, but deep-water corals and cold-water corals also exist in other areas on a smaller scale.

Coral reefs serve as a barrier that protects mangroves and seagrass beds from the pounding waves; the mangroves and grass beds, in turn, protect the reef from sedimentation and serve as breeding and nursery areas for many of the species that are part of the reef ecosystem.
